Welcome to the San Luis Valley; the highest Alpine Valley in the world! This campground sits close to the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range. You can also see the San Juan mountain range to the east in the distance. San Juans are part of the NW rim of the Continental Divide. Great Sand Dunes are visible from every site. With unlimited mountain views, beautiful starry night skies, come see the Milky Way, Eclipse, Meteor showers!!! Previously known as High Desert Ranch Campground, this land was originally part of a large ranch in the 1980s. The main ranch is still up and running but this parcel was used for many purposes over the years. In 2021, we were featured in USA Todays Ten Best for star gazing! My property has 360 degree mountains views with the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range as our back yard. Nearby you can find many different trail systems for all kinds of outdoor enthusiasts. From hiking to jeeping, ATV or dirt biking and equestrians - you can find it all! You will be surrounded by ranch land and state land with Wildlife Refuge just two miles away. Accommodations for those with livestock, just make sure you chat in advance your initial message. Close to BLM, and National Forest as well as 3 hot springs within 20 miles and the Great Sand Dunes. We are still under construction and making changes often so bear with us while we continue to add and change things for the better!

Twin Bridges Campground

Camp alongside the Arkansas River in Bighorn Sheep Canyon. April-November. We accommodate Tents, Vans, smaller Class C motor homes or Camping Trailers under 30 feet. Multiple newer campers and tents can be provided based on your camping or glamping needs. Restrooms and showers are easily accessible. We also have camping by a pond with easy access to the river. We offer Fly Fishing on our 1,000 feet of riverfront property. (no lures, treble hook, or "bait" of any kind.) Catch and Release on property grounds. Colorado Fishing licenses are required for anyone over the age of 16. No fishing is allowed on the small pond on the property. Fly fishing lessons, and guided fishing on the property are available. Guided tours for fishing the Arkansas River from a raft, white water rafting, horseback riding, or a zipline adventure can be arranged in the Canyon Adventure awaits a short 18 mile drive up the Canyon in the Arkansas River Valley. (Salida to Leadville) Home to the highest mountain peaks in Colorado. 102 Miles of Gold Medal Water for trout fishing. There are at least 5 hot springs within 60 miles of Twin Bridges Campground. Salida is considered the white-water rafting capitol of the USA by some and has a whitewater park and surfing wave. Salida area is also home to a ton of hiking and mountain biking trails. The Royal Gorge is a quick 30 minute drive. The Sand Dunes are 90 minutes and Monarch Ski Area is 45.

The Milky Way Cabin

Indulge in the charm of a custom-built tiny house nestled against a grove of Aspens. This 100% solar-powered and self-sustaining cabin is situated on 2 acres, accessible via a scenic 13-mile drive on dirt roads off Hwy 24. Since we are 100% OFF GRID we do not have a well. I bring 3-4 (5) gallon jugs of water and dump them in the tank under the sink when I stay. It's very easy and is plenty water when used conservatively. This water will run the kitchen and bathroom sink as well as the shower. The shower itself uses 1.75 gallons per minute. If you use the shower, make it quick! There may be some water in the tank when you arrive (in the summer) but we recommend bringing a couple of 5 gallon jugs to put under the sink. Kids over 10 accepted with caution. There is a propane heater on the wall as well as a ladder to the loft. There are two lofts. One has a queen bed and the other has two twin mattresses made of foam that fold in to chairs. Bring sleeping bags if you plan on sleeping in the loft! The kitchen table is flat against the wall and folds down when needed. Turn and pull out the lever on top release the table. This place is brand new and we are still working things out. There is a stool under the stairs and the box in the corner was designed to be used as a seat/ottoman. Lay out a blanket on the brand new Huge deck and bring binoculars or use our telescope (available in the summer only and located in the shed) and stargaze! Lots of things to do including hiking, paddle boarding, fishing in the summer at 11 Mile Reservoir. Go snow shoeing, rent a Polaris in Woodland Park, and snow mobiling in Buena Vista. Eleven Mile Reservoir is just a few minutes away by car. Detailed arrival and departure instructions will be sent to you via email a few days before your stay on how to use the unique systems in the cabin. Learn more about this land:This camp site is directly across the road from Eleven Mile Reservoir. With this site being around 3000 feet from the reservoir you will be able to enjoy all the amazing views and amenities the reservoir has to offer without the crowded camp grounds. You will need a park pass to access the reservoir but not to camp on the land. A 1/4 mile down the road is access to nation forest for going off road or get a parks pass and fish at one of the many amazing fisheries in the area like Eleven mile, Spinney and Eleven mile canyon. The south shore boat ramp is less than 4 miles away. This area does get windy so be careful setting up awnings and pop up tents or anything the wind likes to blow away. The site has a slight pitch but leveling out your camper should be relatively easy. No trees on the land to block your 360 degree mountain views.
